Reason – Carriageway resurfacing
Diversion – Spey Road, Cullen Crescent, Findhorn Road and vice versa

ESSENTIAL RESURFACING ON THE A8 IN PORT GLASGOW AND GREENOCK COMMENCES MONDAY 7TH JULY 2025

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A8 in Port Glasgow and Greenock from Monday 7th July until Sunday 20th July 2025 between 8pm and 6ameach night in three phases:

Phase 1: This phase of work will involve the structural reconstruction of the A8 eastbound carriageway in Port Glasgow between Bogston Lane and Glen Roundabout between Monday 7th July and Sunday 13th July. This will involve a closure of the eastbound carriageway between Glen Roundabout and Gibshill Road as well as a lane closure on Glen Roundabout and on the westbound carriageway between Glen Roundabout and Gibshill Road.

  • Eastbound A8 traffic will be diverted via Gibshill Road, Lansbury Street, Mitchell Street, Farquhar Road, Birkmyre Avenue, Lilybank Road, Glen Avenue, Balfour Street and Brown Street to return to the A8 at Glen Roundabout.
  • There will also be a lane closure on the eastbound A8 between Scott Way and Glen Roundabout between 6am and 8pm on Wednesday 9th July and Thursday 10th July.

Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Monday 14th July.

Phase 2: This phase of work will involve the structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway in Greenock between Cartsdyke Roundabout and Cartsburn Roundabout between Friday 11th July and Friday 18th July. During this time, there will also be lane closures on Cartsdyke Roundabout, Cartsburn Roundabout, East Hamilton Street and on the westbound carriageway between Cartsburn and Cartsdyke Roundabout.

  • Westbound A8 traffic will be diverted via Ratho Street, Belville Street, Ingleston Street, Baker Street, Drumfrochar Road, Cornhaddock Street, Dunlop Street then taking the third exit at the roundabout onto the A78 and following to the A8 Bullring Roundabout.
  • There will also be a lane closure between Cartsdyke Roundabout and Cartsburn Roundabout between 6am and 8pm from Saturday 12th July until Monday 14th July.

Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday 19th July.

Phase 3: This phase of work will involve the structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway in Greenock between Cartsburn Roundabout and the fire station from Wednesday 16th July until Saturday 19th July. During this time, there will also be a lane closure on Cartsburn Street and no access between the A8 and East Stewart Street, and lane closures on the eastbound carriageway between Dellingburn Street and Cartsburn Roundabout.

  • Traffic will be directed to follow the above diversion.
  • There will also be a lane closure between East Stewart Street and the traffic lights prior to the Fire Station between 6am and 8pm on Thursday 17th July.

Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Sunday 20th July.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable
